I had some disappointing news today.
I was meant to be going to Haiti in 3 weeks time with work to make a documentary. I can't unfortunately say what I was going to be doing there - but it has in short, been deemed too dangerous and we would have too many restrictions there which would prohibit us from the freedom of being able to make the best film possible.
Over the last 2 weeks I have been absorbing as much as possible about Haiti - about the earthquake, talking to lots of people affected - who have narrowly escaped with their lives, lost loved ones, lost their homes and all their possessions and livelihoods - people now homeless and terrified of what's to come.
But I have also been reading about the history of the country, the people and the culture. The music, the art, Voodoo - zombies and werewolves, the Oloffson and Graham Greene and the film school set up a few years ago.
I want to go one day, meet all the wonderful people I've spoken to over the last couple of weeks - contribute something positive to a country which is in such need of anything positive in whatever form, however little...
